Next step is a visit through deserted Meridian. There will only be a minor boss to fight, but it should give the chance to find more runes. The town itself is full of rotting buildings and abandoned military posts.
Kain: (Thinking) “After defeating the Hylden, I had begun rebuilding my empire in this very city. Unfortunately, the remnants of the Sarafan weren’t so easily dismantled since the town still believed themselves capable of stopping the ‘vampire plague’. Of course they couldn’t, but they organized hunting squads anyways. After so much death, a disease struck Meridian, infecting the city and making it undesirable at best. I now saw that it never truly recovered, and only the docks still showed signs of life. I would commandeer a ship and sail across the Great Southern Sea where Amon awaited rescue from the Eternal Prison.”
The city is dead for the most part, allowing Kain easy travelling. If the player is not careful in feeding, then guards come to fight off Kain. In the Spectral Realm there are wraiths, Sluagh, and the flying-Sluagh ready to attack. Before reaching the docks, Kain must be in the Material Realm to open the doors. There, he will pass by a graveyard where Morum will stand in his path. Morum is wearing a dark cloak, many magical trinkets are hanging all over him, his face is pale and wrinkled, and he carries with him a black wooden staff with an emerald at the end.
Morum: “Please, a coin or two to feed an old man?”
Kain: “Out of my way, or you will become my feast.”
Morum: “Well, charity is as scarce as life around these parts, isn’t it?”
Kain: “Move.”
Morum: “Oh, I’m sorry, but I cannot fulfill that wish. You see, I’m Morum. Haven’t heard of me? Too bad, for I am an accomplished necromancer who’s been paid a hefty sum to kill you.”
Kain: “Were there no younger mercenaries left to purchase?”
Morum: “None as good as me.”
Morum strikes his staff against the ground, and the emerald glows brightly. Then four zombies crawl from out of their graves and circle Kain.
Morum: “I am the best, and I have been paid well. It’s your bad luck that I’m an honest man, or I’d allow you to buy your life back. Prepare to die!”
Morum attacks and blocks in a similar fashion as Kain, but not nearly as fast. To compensate for this, every minute or so he conjurs forth four more zombies. While this doesn’t seem much, they do accumulate, and Kain cannot strike anything other than the zombies if they manage to bite him and latch on. Attack Move #1 should have been learned by now, as it is an effective way to move around Morum’s blocks. After he dies a fast death, he throws the relic Necromancer’s Staff at Kain’s feet, who then picks it up.
Kain: (Thinking) “Though I did not hold as much talent as Morum for necromancy, his staff still gave me access to his powers, allowing me to move the dead around as I wished. However, the attempt required all my focus, leaving me open to an attack.”
If Kain goes into the Spectral Realm, Morum’s wraith is there, but gives no more nutrition than a normal wraith. This area is made for practice with the Necromancer’s Staff, as it has plenty of dead bodies and barrels to destroy. Continuing, the docks are filled with guards ready to defend their cargo. The player must lure away one guard, kill him, then use the staff in order to pass the other guards and locked doors. Once reaching the top of the small lighthouse, a switch must be turned, and a boat docks right next to Kain, one he boards and kills the crew in order to sail to the Eternal Prison.
