Kain will be wading through the swamp surrounding Vorador’s Mansion. It will be similar to the swamps of mid-tropical regions with all the sounds of thriving life. There will be a fog in the area as well as an overwhemping amount of water to burn him.
Kain: (Thinking) “As I have always wondered, why would a vampire surround himself with so much humidity? Water is the most abundant form of our weakness, yet Vorador’s Mansion might have well ben an island in the middle of the sea. The local villagers tell stories of how his victims’ ghosts haunt the area, wainting to release their revenge upon unsuspecting victims. Since I had been here before, I knew those stories to be true.”
Other than the water, the Player has to keep an eye out for ghosts shifting into the Material Realm and either fighting or pulling Kain back into the Spectral Realm. Once there, there is a multitude of different wraiths. They will swarm towards Kain and attack him all at once, making travel in the Material Realm much safer, ironically. Forcing abandoned buildings to fall or trees to dubme will provide bridges with ‘Mind Blast’, while ‘Leap’ to land across long barriers is also quite useful. After reaching Vorador’s Mansion, it’s clear that the closed gates will not open. Once the Player shifts to the Spectral Realm, a long knife will puncture the wall, creating a temporary hole in the wall. Out of the hole will come The Rage; his skin is burned and half-covered with bandages, wearing a western duster, a wide-brimmed hat, red glowing eyes, and a black red-glowing blade, the Executioner’s Blade.
The Rage: “You another ghost whinning about death or the lost soul of some little vampire?”
Kain: “I am neither. Though I am a vampire, I am not lost.”
The Rage: “You’re going to the Abyss if you’re a vampire this close to me. It’s my duty to kill your kind and send them on their way to nothingness.”
Kain: “Your self-appointed duty, no doubt. I did not know vigilanties carried their causes beyond death.”
The Rage: “I am rage. Nothing more. Nothing less. You kind took my life and my family. Now, I take it back from you leeches whenever I can.”
Kain: (Thinking) “Vorador certainly loved to keep his enemies close, even those no longer living.”
Kain: “Then come. See if you have it within you to kill one more.”
The Rage will hit hard and fast, leaving little need to block the Player’s attacks. The best defense is a good offense, pulling in other vampiric wraiths with ‘Spectral Vacume’ so that they join in attacking the Rage. This will force him to shift into the Material Realm, where the Player can use ‘Berserker’ to hit him hard and fast right back. Though The Rage is not a dynamic enemy, his combined attacks are quite damaging. Once The Rage is destroyed in the Material Realm, he leaves the Executioner’s Blade. Kain picks this up, giving him the ability to pass through certain barriers in the Spectral Realm. The weakened Rage can bee seen running away in the Spectral Realm, being too fast to catch.
Any walls that glow red in the Spectral Realm can be sliced open by the Executioner’s Blade, allowing Kain to pass through them. After walking past the garden and into the Mansion, the Player is once again forced to solve a puzzeling environment. Vorador’s Mansion is a mixture of trap doors, faked hallways, and illusionary stairs designed to kill intruders for Vorador’s twisted sense of humor. There are many people chained to the walls and other torture devices. In the Spectral Realm, not much is different except the multitude of wandering wraiths. There will be many ledges to ‘Leap’ back and forth from, a few locked toors to ‘Transport’ through, and many walls to cut with the Executioner’s Blade. This last trick is essential, as there is no natural way to go up the floors. The top floor will be very elegant and refined. There will be a library where a few of Vorador’s journals can be read. In short, they will retell the vampire creation story and why Kain and Vorador hate each other (Blood Omen 2). After searching a few more rooms (and possibly finding some runes), the Player will reach the dinning room where Lady Gwydion is eating a bowl of blood soup. She is very pale, blue eyes, wearing revealing leather and silk clothes, and a black crown with three spikes. She is very surprised at Kain’s presence.
Kain: “You, what happened to Vorador?”
Lady Gwydion: “How did you get…can it be? Are you the legendary Kain?”
Kain: “Answer my question! What happened to Vorador?”
Lady Gwydion: “Why, he is sleeping in his bed.”
Kain: “I warn you, lying to me will not go unpunished.”
Lady Gwydion: “Maybe I should be clearer. He sleeps his final sleep, resting eternally in his personal quarters.”
Kain: “Are you responsible for his death?”
Lady Gwydion: “Partly, but…”
Kain jumps over to her and onto the table, preparing to strike at her.
Lady Gwydion: “Wait! It was at Vorador’s command that I help his passing!”
Kain stops, waiting for her to explain herself.
Lady Gwydion: “I was given the Dark Gift for only one purpose: to mourn his passing. I, Lady Gwydion, am to keep his mansion as his tomb and weep for him forever.”
Kain calms down and jumps off the table.
Kain: “Take me to him.”
She has Kain follow her through a hallway filled with portraits of vampires, then opens huges doors revealing Vorador’s corpse lying upon a stone slab with his sword imbedded in his chest.
Lady Gwydion: “It was here where he asked me to run thim through to the stone. He did not even scream. He simply closed his eyes.”
Kain: “Leave us.”
Lady Gwydion: “I am not to leave him unattended with another.”
Kain: “NOW!”
Lady Gwydion runs away, shutting the doors behind her.
Kain: (Thinking) “Vorador, was the burden of immortality so heavy upon your shoulders? As my empire grew over the centuries, I closed his in. From time to time his soldiers would defy my Generals, but they could never come close to a victory. My respect for the first human vampire kept me from vanquishing this last scrap of territory, but I never knew how uneasily he existed with that fact until now. With no empire to rule and too fearful of humans to leave his mansion, Vorador had no reason to exist.”
Kain shifts into the Spectral Realm and sees Vorador standing over himself, holding a phantom blade.
Vorador: “Very good, Kain. You’ve made it this far already. I expected you later.”
Kain: “You should know not to expect anything from me.”
Vorador: “except your vengeance and pride.”
Kain: “Naturally. So here we are; two vampire wraiths, although I am not truly deceased. Was it too much for you to be confined to your own lands? Was that why you killed yourself?”
Vorador: “My reasons are my own.”
Kain: “Yet you force the living to weep for you?”
Vorador: “Enough, Kain. I don’t know how you became what you are, but I can tell that you’re suffering the same fate as Raziel.”
Kain: “Not his ending, I can assure you of that. Since you despise me so much, why did you aid me in finding the Great Mother Hati?”
Vorador: “Because Kain, you still have a great destiny ahead of you, and I wish for you to fulfill it.”
Kain: “How noble. Tell me, if I pull your sword free and return you to the living, would you join me in my crusade?”
Vorador says nothing.
Kain: “Just as I thought. Perhaps I should make some use of you and consume your soul?”
Vorador: “I accept that fate, Kain. Defeat me, and use my essence to aid you further. I care not. Simply be done with it!”
Kain: “”I will give you a worthy death, Vorador!”
Vorador’s attacks and blocks are very effective, but not terribly quick. If attacked for too long, he will push his sword with two hands against Kain, throwing him against the wall. If the Player blocks for too long, Vorador will grab Kain by the throat and run him through with the blade, causing considerable amounts of damage. If the Player stays out of range for too long, Vorador will ‘Transport’ behind Kain and lunge out at him. Attack Move #5 is the only way around his move, and it allows Kain harm Vorador a lot. Vorador can also call forth a spirit, ball it into his hands, and create a sort of tracking missile that explodes when it contacts anything. He will do this usually after receiving a lot of damage. When Vorador is at half his vitality, he transforms into the werebeast he used to defeat Malek with (Blood Omen). His attacks cannot be blocked, his swipes are very damaging, and he will leap across the room upon Kain. Also, his howls have the power to paralyze Kain for a few seconds, allowing for multiple hits. His only weakness will be the ‘Ruby Eye’ as it creates an illusion for Vorador to attack, rather than Kain. When Vorador is defeated, Kain is reluctant to consume him.
Vorador: “Finish me, Kain!”
Kain nods and consumes Vorador. After the usual pain and suffering, Dumuzi’s face appears.
Dumuzi: “I knew that you could not keep yourself from Vorador. You and he had an unfinished history together, and it was only natural for you to end it.”
Kain: “Do not consider yourself worthy enough to speak his name!”
Dumuzi: “Fine. His soul has passed on his greatest strength, the strength he used to defeat Malek. You can change your form into a werebeast and increase your strength, stamina, and agility. From his body you can take his sword and use it as your own.”
Kain: “I can resume the war I’ve started then?”
Dumuzi: “Not yet. You have one more soul to consume before you reach the battlefield, and I suggest that you hurry. Pashur, the only other Melchahim Cornel than Gedaliah, has planned a surprise attack on Yofiel. If he is successful, your losses will be insurmountable. Luckily, your detour has left you in a prime position to surprise Pashur’s forces. Go now, and you will face the Wheel of Fate soon afterwards.”
Dumuzi leaves, and Kain retrieves Vorador’s Sword.”
Kain: (Thinking) “One more large soul to feast upon, then I’d finally have the chance to destroy the false Elder God. My only explaination for Vorador’s end was the same for human veterans of great wars. The highest dishonor a soldier can receive is surviving. In a way, I was responsible for his self-torture. I cut him away from the world, making him realize how obsolete he was. With nothing left for him but memories, he was a fossil waiting for the realease of extinction, and I was the one to hand it to him.”
