Kain reaches the Zephonhim territory in the darkness of the night, the moon is full and shining down upon the trees. As he reaches a high point, he sees that the entire Silenced Cathedral is surrounded in a green glowing mist, and that the only way in or out is the gated doorways controlled by the Zephonhim within.
Kain: (Thinking) “Reaching the Silenced Cathedral at night revealed an interesting surprise. The entire complex was covered with a mystical barrier, opening and closing at certain heavily guarded locations. Finding a flaw in the barrier seemed pointless, but not more so than being spotted at the gates. Zephon had always exceeded my expectations of him. His greates feat was to put an end to the Avernus Cathedral, preventing our human enemies from using such a massive weapon. I found it odd that Zephon decided to place his seat of power witin the structure instead of demolishing it. His sense of pride could have rivaled my own, but his desire for absolute control drove him mad. Even his soulders had lost their will to Zephon, making them the perfect army. Strange that they did not retain it after his destruction. Like ants without a queen, they continued their work without instruction, or at least with misguided direction.”
Kain notices the sound of twigs breaking, and he swings around, prepared for an attack. After a few moments of silence, the ground appears to move. It is actually many Zephonhim standing up from their subterreanean hiding places, surrounding Kain on all sides. One of them steps forward and speaks in a echoed female voice.
Yofiel: “Don’t be alarmed. None of my renegades shall harm you. I am your Cornel Yofiel, and I request you assistance in my freedom.”
Kain: “I suspect that the creature before me is not my Cornel.”
Yofiel: “You are right. As you know, Zephon had a strong mental link to all his children. After he died, the reins of that link were passed down to his Cornels.”
Kain: “Interesting. Can you tell me what magic is surrounding the Cathedral?”
Yofiel: “Sadly, I can only tell you who is responsible. After the loss of Zephon, the Cornels began to war with each other to gain supreme control over the Zephonhim empire. The survivors are myself and the aligned Liam and Asmon. Those two are working together to find my whereabouts and kill me, and their attempts become closer to success with every attempt.”
Kain: “Then show me to their chambers and I shall command them to unite or perish together.”
Yofiel: “MY alliegance you already have, but Asmon and Liam’s orders are to destroy you on sight.”
Kain: “They dare make such an order they’re not willing to carry out themselves?”
Yofiel: “It is that they can’t battle you in person that they’ve made the order.”
Kain: “Explain yourself, or I shall cut out your lying tongue!”
Yofiel: “In an effort to gain an edge against me, they sought out for foreign assistance. None of the other clans carred about our politics, but Gedaliah listened. He charmed them with spectral magics, giving them more control over the Zephonhim. Yet, they are no longer Asmon and Liam at all. They are very different beings now. I think you’ve met their kind before, the Hylden.”
Kain: (Thinking) “Was I to never rid this world of the Hylden? I had long ago bested their leader in combat and closed the portal that allowed them save passage to Nosgoth. They could have never returned without assistance. The false Elder God must have known I’d unite the clans together against him and created this obstacle to oppose me.”
Kain: “Allw me safe passage into the Cathedral, and I shall remove the Hylden from this world again.”
Yofiel: “If I could, there’d be no point to it. They protect themselves with an unbreakable seal, and their mental link to the clan removes any need for them to move.”
Kain: “Then what do you suggest? Become vanquished?”
Yofiel: “Before my loss of control, I heard of a rumor that the Knight’s Templar of Willendorf owned two blessed hammers with the power to crush any magical seal. However, I’m unable to search for it. Asmon and Liam have been assaulting Willendorf relentlessly for blood and recruits. I do not know if the knighst still posses the hammers.”
Kain: “This all seems too convenient.”
Yofiel: “I could have killed you, Kain. You are great, but you’d be lucky to survive an attack by the Zephonhim. Especially over twenty of them all at once.”
Kain: “Threatening me will allow you none of my trust.”
Yofiel: “The Zephonhim do not threaten, only state the truth.”
Kain: (Thinking) “She was correct, but I was beginning to feel like an errand boy to my underlings. Serving my lesser was not something I enjoyed doing. Luckily, this was the last of the clans to collect. After them, my army would become complete.”
Next scene, Kain is looking upon Willendorf, a grand castle surrounded by a large wall in turn surrounded by wooden buildings.
Kain: (Thinking) “Old Willendorf was probably the mightiest of human cities, freeing itself of vampiric or any other influences. Currently, it was in half-ruin. Battles and fires had turned its streets into open graves, and its moat into a resivore of blood. Zephonhim corpsese here and there supported Yofiel’s claims that the Ylden wanted to raze the city. Was this the result of a blind need for conquest, or a fear of what was hidden inside? The existence of the hammers would answer that question.”
The village around the castle will not be that difficult. Occasionally, human soldiers and Zephonhim will occasionally spot him. The soldiers are with swords, shields, axes, pikes, and crossbows. The Zephonhim are probably the hardest medium targets, as they are fest, hit hard, and climb walls with ease. In the Spectral Realm, much is the same, save for the Zephonhim wraiths who attack just as well as they did in the Material Realm. After the village, the Player will have to use ‘Mind Blast’ to kill all the archers protecting a crack in the walls. After then, there will be many soldiers who jump from nearby houses to attack Kain on foot.
After using ‘Teleport’ to reach the crack, the castle will be a maze of stone buildings, soldiers, and neglected sewer systems. Above the sewersthe Player will have to maneuver Kain as to not be sighte by every single soldier along the way. Within the sewers, the Player will use ‘Divine Light’ to see in the darkened rooms where there are no stepping stones to step upon in the Spectral Realm. In a church connecting to the Throne Room, Kain is confronted by Sister Dilligence before he can pass. She is lightly tanned, brown hair, very athletic build, full golden armor in a slim form, and a jeweled mace. She is kneeled in front of the doors, but stands upright to confront Kain.
Sister Dilligence: “You are the Unclean, a scavenger of sorrow, and a breeder of death. You may not pass these doors, but you may have time to pray for forgiveness.”
Kain: “Out of my way, mortal! I will not ask a second time.”
Sister Dilligence: “You will not pray for it, but I’ll make you beg for it. For in the grasps of nonexistence, all creatures see the light…”
Kain jumps at her with his claws, throwing her back to the doors. As he prepares to feed upon her, she holds up her Rosemary, covering her with a fire that does not consume her. Kain jumps back in pain as the flames do burn him.
Sister Dilligence: “You are a strong, old evil, and I was foolish to think you’d wish for absolvement. Now you will know the power of my faith. May it burn you all the way back to your hell!”
The problem in fighting Sister Dilligence is that being close to her actually harms Kain. Blcoking her hits prolongs this exposure, and the best way around this is ‘Attack #4’ combined with ‘Stone Skin’. She will strike erratically and block just as well as Kain can. When she lowers down to one-third of life, she will occasionally kick as the Player uses long attacks. When she is killed, her mace is thrown from her dead fingers. Kain now can use the Mace as a weapon. If the player shifts to the Spectral Realm, her wraith is nowhere to be seen. Through the doors are long hallways filled with random mixtures of soldiers. If the Player is tired, they’ll learn they can slip by and quickly go through the doors. Eventually, Kain will reach the center of the Throne Room, and King Alexander is waiting for him. He is wearing a heavy gold crown, a long purple robe, his hair is graying, his beard is unkept, and his eyes are very dreary.
King Alexander: “Make it quick if there’s a shard of descency within you.”
Kain: (Thinking) “The crown definitely weighed heavily upon this king’s head. To be fair, he probably thought himself to be the last mortal king of Willendorf.”
Kain: “I have not come as your assassin, this day. I have come to ask you why the Zephonhim feel the need to topple over your kingdom.”
The King stands up and slowly walks pass Kain.
King Alexander: “Walk with me.”
Kain peers at the king, but follows anyway. After opening doors, the guards come to attack Kain, but the King waves them away.
King Alexander: “This war is the cause of my arrogance and the people’s hatred of your kind. They were tired of loosing loved ones to your fangs, and I was tired of hearing them. Tell me, what kind of king would I be if I had done nothing to ease the pain of my people?”
Kain: (Thinking) “This King obviously needed someone to listen to his pain. I wouldn’t have done so, but I felt pity for him in the way only fellow rulers could share.”
King Alexander: “They’d come to me, ‘My King Alexander, why don’t you do anything?’ And so I did. I sent my most trusted men on a mission to the Silenced Cathedral with a weapon forged in a time forgotten by men unknown for a lost purpose. The weapon was named the Blessed Warhammers of Willendorf, and they have the power to destroy any barrier and any seal. I gave my men the order to break the shield around the Zephonhim haven. They did, but only one survived to return the hammers. Soon after, we were at war.”
Kain: “Why are you showing me the hammers if my race is the cause of your sorrows?”
King Alexander: “You’ve not been listening. I am the cause of my sorrows. I don’t know who you are, but I can only hope that you’ve come to make right the wrongs I’ve committed. If not, then what harm could it do?”
Kain: “Where are the hammers?”
King Alexander: “The Blessed Hammers of Willendorf have always been kept by an ancient bloodline of guardians. Only brothers are chosen, and they both must perish before their treasure can be collected. Kill the Mason Brothers, and the hammers are yours.”
As King Alexander leaves what looks like to be a blacksmith’s shrine, the Mason Brothers come into view. They have unusually bulky armor latched on with belts, their boots and gloves are oversized, they have what looks like to be gas masks, and they have dreadlocks (one with black hair, the other with red). They attack in three different ways. One is a simple hit with the hammers while blocking when necessary. Two is by slamming the ground to create shockwaves that knock back Kain. Three is by swinging around the room while holding out their hammers, being tornadoes of damage. During this last manner of attack, the Player can ‘Mind Blast’ and knock them out of the spin. Once one is killed, the surviving brother wills the other’s hammer into his hand, doubling hit damage. After they are killed, Kain walks over to their corpses to collect the hammers.
Kain: (Thinking) “As with my last visit to Willendorf, I found it pointless and irritating. Thankfully, the hammers would allow me to return to the Silenced Cathedral and regain my control of Zephon’s forces. I left the King Alexander to his broken kingdom, and his broken soul.”
