Legacy of Kain: The Lost Prophecy
Chapter VII - Glyph Reaver

"Intruder!!!", - I heard one of them screaming. Then, I felt myself immobilized, unable to move. One of the Ancient Vampires had telepathically caught me in a wire.
"I recommend you to release me at once. The next time I say that, will end badly for all of you", - I was trying to sound polite.
"What are you? And what kind of weapon you wield?", - the one who had caught me, asked.
I did not answer him. I just turned myself into the Cloud of Bats, and flew out of the Vampires Citadel. I was surprised that they did not follow me. Perhaps, only then, when I had turned into the Bats Cloud, they realized that I was a Vampire. Not a Vampire like them, but some kind of. It did not mean that they would hug me and consider a friend, but I will not be eliminated as any Hylden they encountered.
Yes. It was that time... I realized, what time period I was thrown to. It was the war of the Ancient Vampires and the Hylden. What could I possibly find here?
I landed on a mount near the Citadel, and turned to myself back. I was at the top of the world, and I could see really far. It was the late time of night, the dawn was yet to come. And what I saw... had shocked me. The world of those prehistorical times. The world one could see only in myths or legends. Time fades even legends, but at that time, I could see all of those. The forgotten races... the forgotten aeon. And which is more different - no Pillars. Still, no Pillars.
The landscape was very similar to that of the Sarathanian era, when Raziel killed his former self. A paradise - world of my dreams. Actually, I brought it to that state when I had restored the Balanse. But that was different. There were large cities, full of life. There were beautiful temples, citadels, castles, and even macines. There were industrial megapolises of Hylden Race, and incredible Vampire Strongholds. There were also human villages, but they were toren of the lifes of other races.
At those times, each race lived their own way, without messing up with the others. That was why one could see a technologically progressed city of Hylden, and a poor village of stone and wood in the middle of a forest. Moreover, the Hylden and Humans were meeting very selldom. So selldom that those meeting were pretty occasional and short. Or when the Hyldens were kidnapping or convincing humans to work for them, and using them as a cheap working class. Those who were working for the Hylden, were totally isolated from the other humans for their entire lives. The Hyldens did not want them to learn of their technology. They hated humans, considering them as apes. And if they were apes, then apes they should remain.
The Ancient Vampires were, on the contrary, showing humans a world of wider possibilities. They were liberating humans from Hylden enslavement, and teaching them magic. I suspected that, perhaps, Vorador, was one of those liberated humans. Who knows...

I reached the Avernus Catherdal - the central base of the Hylden. To know what I had to do, I needed to find the Seer of that time. And suddenly, and paradoxically, she appeared in front of me. I was not surprising anymore when she was doing that - I had no doubt in her omniciense.
"Just in time, Guardian from the Future Balanse, and the Scion of Balanse. You are punctual", - The Seer said.
"I prefer you to call me Kain... I see you hadn't changed through all these years. I mean... you will not change...", - I was saying.
"Oh, please. I know how will I look after all those aeons yet pass. I had foreseen your come Kain. You have come from the far future, to find the missing part here, in the past", - she said.
"And you will help me. But first tell me, what exactly time period is this?", - I asked.
"A few years before the Pillars would rise, Hyldens banished, and Vampires cursed. You are at the beginning of the culmination of the millenium war. A fierce battle between the two races is going to occur in a few hours, and the Hylden Emperor would be killed by Janos Audron. One of his generals will take the lead, and later send the Emperor's loyal servant, the Builder, to the Eternal Prison, for refusing to use the machine he himself had built. The new commander would go onslaught, almost winning the war, conquering and defeating the Vampire positions everywhere. Witnessing their defeat, the Vampiric Council would raise the Pillars as their last measure. The Hylden would be banished. But before their banishment, their Guild of Glyph-Masters members would use a forbidden spell that can deprave genetics. In other and simplier language, they would lay on them the curse of Immortality, Sterility and Blood Thirst", - The Seer told really quickly. I could barely remember what she had just said, but there was no need in remembering all of that history lesson.
"And what should I do?", - I asked, - "In that far future I have come from, you told me to bring together what has been made as a weapon and a sheild...".
"Find and kill the Hylden Emperor. Deal the final blow. Get his soul to the Reaver", - she said, - "and then you will know what to do, Kain". Then, she disappeared, just in time, when I was going to ask her another question. I knew what game she was playing. She gave me advices according to my destiny, but did not uncover them. Maybe it is because something bad was going to happen with her... or me?

The great plain, where should stand the Pillars was empty. Instead, some formations of Hylden warriors, sorcerers and siege machines (Glyph Tanks) were awaiting on the battle field. I had to hide, so that they could not see me. Tho Hylden commanders were standing ahead of the Hylden Forces. I recognized the first of them: it was the Hylden Lord, or the Sarathan Lord, or The Unspoken. But his real name was Hash'ag'gik. He was refering as "Mylord" to the second comader. I had never seen the second one before, but I understood, that this one, was the one I needed - the Hylden Emperor.
"We are ready for the assault. Should I order the Glyph Tanks to shoot, Mylord?", - asked Hash'ag'gik.
"Yes, Hash", - said the Emperor in his deep voice. His eyes were lightening with green flash, even more than those of Lord Hylden. It was still night, but the flashes of the Hylden made it bright as day. However, it did not harm me or any other vampire.
And the order was given. The Glyph Tanks, high floating machines, that worked on Glyph magic, gave the first blast. The land was shattered, and the air disturbed. At first, sound of thunder has shattered the Vampires Citadel. Then, a burning light blue energy ran over it. Finally, the walls of the Citadel broke in a few places, and massive explosion were see as red flashes from the distance of the Glyph Tanks. And very soon, the tanks gave another blast, that shattered not only the Citadel, but the mounted archepelague laying near to it.
The Ancient Vampires were forced to fight back. At that moment, strong winds hit the Hylden formations like a stone that fell into a water. The Hylden were disoriented, and many of the Vampires started attacking them from the air. The main elements of their magics were Wind and Fire. The combition of those were really painful for the Hylden forces in a good hands. The Vampires were shooting blast at the Hylden troops. The Hylden Sorcerers were shooting Glyph Blasts at the flying Vampires. The Glyoh Tanks were shooting at the Vampire Citadel, like an artillery... I was shocked to see, how powerful were the ancient races. Their technologies, weapons, magics... all were so powerful... so great... so magnificent...

The Hylden were not stupid. The dawn was going to come, and the Vampires had to retreat to their Citadel, for not being burnt by the sunlight. I was at the top of a high cliff, available to see the whole battle, without being discovered. From the top, I could see the current commander of the Vampires - Janos Audron. He had not changed through aeons too. He was leading the Vampiric forces, and was in charge for all their militiary operations. Only the Vampiric Council was above him...
The dawn was near. The sun was to be shown in a few minutes. I could see Janos ordering all the troops to retreat, until suddenly... he met face to face with his greatest adversary of all the times: a high heavily armored Hylden with dual swords in his hands - the Hylden Emperor. Without any hesitation, forgetting about the battle, and the dawn that had yet to come, the two "titans" clunged in a duel.
Janos had the upper hand - he could fly. However, he was far from being such quick as the Hylden Emperor. As such, Janos was wounded a few times. Janos was time by time using his telecynethical blasts, but the Hylden Emperor was always countering them with his Glyph Shield spell. Eventually, Janos made a scars on his face. Filled by rage, the Hylden Emperor was filled with the Glyph Magic all over his body, and it went on, throught the duals swords. Then, with a classical piruette, he slightly slashed Janos's stomach, as Janos managed to move back a little bit. However, Janos still felt a hard pain, and screamed. The Hylden Emperor pushed Janos, who fell on the ground. Just right then, the duals swords were near Janos's throat, being ready to slash it.
I was looking at their duel, from moment to moment trying to figure out, wether I should interrupt or not. The Seer told me to deal the final blow. But when I saw the Emperor taking the lead, I understood, finally, what I had to do. I alone must do what had to be done. Aiming the reaver to their direction, I blasted at the Hylden Emperor. He has thrown back from Janos. Janos himself looked up to see him saviour, but a blast hit him too. Although he was hit slightly, Janos was thrown aside a little, fainted. As I planned, the Hylden Emperor was still alive. I teleported downwards, into the heart of the battle. Somehow, unexpectedly, I was blasted by the Emperor's Glyph Blast.
"What the hell are you?", - he asked.
"The question is... who are you?", - I answered with a question.
"My name is Balnazar, the Emperor of Hylden. But you know it already, don't you?", - he asked with a small tone of irony.
"Yes, I know who you are", - I was saying, while fighting him. My Balanse Reaver was struggling against his duals, - "And it seems to me, as if you were told of me".
"The Seer told me of somebody, that does not look nor like Hylden nor as a Vampire, but genetically is a Vampire. But I never trusted her prophecies. It looks like one of her prophecies was true! Hm... interesting", - he said.
I felt myself weakening, unable to sustain his Glyph Energies. I felt as if my opponent was drawing my powers from me. I had to kill him, but how? He was too strong. A single stab with the reaver would be enough, but I could not do even that...
And the dawn was coming. I teleported a few meters away from him. Aimed on my place, teleporting behind me, and that was what I predicted him to do. I made two steps backwards, so he appeared just in front of me. All I had to do is stab him. And I made that backstab, impaling Balnazar, the Hylden Emperor.
"Ah.... It cannot be! She was right... after all!", - he was grasping.
"This is your destiny", - I said.
"I do not... believe in... destiny", - he answered.
"How bad... because it believes in you. And you were destined to die, as everybody else in Nosgoth", - I said.
"If what The Seer has told me... is true, then you know who is the... true... enemy, the False... God", - he said.
"I know. I saw him. I know his real name - Baal. And The Seer told me that you have something I need", - I said coldly.
"I do... To alter the future, you must uncover the past. Bring together what has been made as a weapon... and... a sheild", - Balnazar said, - "That was... what The Seer told me you must do".
"I have heard these words before, but I do not understand what they mean...", - I said.
"It is obvious", - he said, - "The Reaver is the Weapon...".
"...and the Nexus Stone is the Shield!", - I realized.
"Now you know it, Kain... Isn't it your name?... Bring them together...", - he said, making his last breaths.
"I was killed centuries ago, and ressurected... They used the Glyph Magic.... My body... has a great concentrated amount of... Glyph Energy", - Balnazar said.
"Then you already know what I have to do", - I told him, realizing what was my task.
"Yes... kill... me... And then... with your sword... enchanted by the Glyph Energy... bring together... what has been made as a weapon... and... a sheild...", - those were his last words. I drew the reaver out of his body, and cut his head of.
"Thank you. Now, go...", - I said...
I felt my body being burnt, but strengthtened. All my nerves were shut down, and I could feel no pain. The Glyph Energy was running all over me. The reaver rose a few pounds above the ground, releasing Glyph bolts all around, hitting both Vampires and Hylden. The ground began shattering, and I could not stand straight. I fell down. The Reaver was released of its energy enlightenment, and everything calmed down. Only then, I realized, that the Balanse Reaver was imbued with a new element - the Glyph Magic. It was so magnificent... so beautiful... but making a permanent monotonical noise.
And then, I quickly teleported up on the cliff, as I could see Janos waking up. He did not understand clearly what had just happened there, but the sun was rising up already. All other Vampires had already flew away back to the citadel. Janos saw an emptiness on the battlefield: the Vampires flew back to the citadel, and the Hylden retreated, because their leader was killed. His heart was full of joy - his race had just survived another battle, that could be the last battle, if not that mysterious saviour... who actually was me.

I looked at my newly enchanted weapon. What difference did it make? I still needed to unite the Weapon and the Shield. The Reaver and the Nexus Stone. I had both of them, but no idea how to use them. And what troubled me even more, was how to shift back to my time period. I wished finally to finish this. To destroy the False God. To end with Baal forever...
