Legacy of Kain: The Lost Prophecy
Chapter II - Demonic Realm

With the restoration of Balanse in the world, I have gained more of the thing I was always searching for: knowledge. Knowledge is power. I knew more of my obligations as the Balanse Guardian, and I knew everything about it's functions. Holding the Soul Reaver, I was also the Tenth Guardian, the Reaver Guardian. I knew how to open portals to the Demonic Realm, where the Hylden were banished. Thus, I had to stick the reaver blade into the circle in the middle of the Pillars arena, just in front of the Balanse Pillar. I did it, and then, I drew a circle with my left hand, just enough for me to enter. A portal of that size has opened, and I jumped in. I felt a quick sense of vertigo, and found myself in the same place, but with differently coloured view. Everything was orange, like in a desert in the time of dusk. I could hear deep noises. These were winds... or maybe not?
Every object was in a move. I felt myself moving too. The entire dimension was regullary changing its shape. It was same as in the Spectral Realm, but not that correctly. There were no correct textures or objects. Everything was smooth. And the Pillars... they looked the same way as in the Material Realm. I had been in this realm before, but I had no time to study its beautiful landscape. And was it beautiful? It looked like hell itself.
I made a few steps, and felt as if I was drunk by ale. My every move I saw the world swinging. I wondered how I did not fall yet. I looked on the Reaver. It was moving like a snake. So were my legs and hands. But they were not actually moving. It was my interpretation of this world. How could Janos survive here for two millenias? How could the hylden live here for aeons. This world gave me a feeling as if I was running on a wheel like a squarrel. "I cannot find myself here, how am I supposed to find Janos?", - I asked myself. And I did not know where to search for him, but I felt my heart beatting. But how? I was heartless at that moment. Raziel had toren it away from my chest. I knew the answer. The vessel that carried the Heart of Darkness was nearby, in this realm. Janos Audron must be here... but where?
Suddenly I heard strange voices, non-male and non-female, rushing through the wind with echo. A few seconds later a green force barrier has appeared, and blocked me as a mouse in cage. I held the Reaver stronger, preparing myself for a fight, with whatever I was going to encounter. I prepared myself for the worse. Just a few moments later, a green light has surrounded me, and three ugly demonic creatures appeared all around me. I was not surprised when I saw them. I had encountered them before, when Lord Hylden was taming and using them. These were Demons, the earliest and the natural inhabiters of this realm, that could jump through realms and even time by their master's will. Who was their master still remained unknown for me... until now
"You will fail Kain", - the first of them said.
"Submit to our master's will. He will always be one step ahead of you", - said the second.
"The Wheel of Fate must turn!", - the third finished.
"Wait a moment! The Wheel of Fate, you said?! Ha-ha! I should have known this. You serve that false God? That ugly squid?!", - I was shocked, - "Now this makes sense! All of those Demons I encountered served the same master? Are Hylden serving him too? And if his pets are still on duty, then he still lives and tries to catch me. Very funny. I suggest you should give him a message when you die", - I said, enjoying every word I spelled, - "Tell him that his plans are crashed. I have restored the Balanse, and won the challenge against the fate. "The coin fell on the edge" - I think he will understand this quote. I won, he lost!".
"It is not over yet", - said the first of the demons.
"You are still bound to the Wheel of Fate", - said the second.
"The Elder God, The Master of The Fate will lock you here forever", - said the last.
"Ha-ha! The "Master of the Fate"!? Well, looks like I have overcome your master. Looks like his is not so perfect as you think he is? Pathetic creatures. I wonder what race you belong to, and how can you travel through realms? Are these your master's gifts to his dogs?", - I said.
"You will get a gift too. Our master decided to spare your life, and that is why you will stay here for eternity, in this force-shield cage. Good bye. Kain, the Scion of Balanse, and the Pawn of Destiny that believes he can trick the Wheel of Fate", - one of the Demons said. A few moment later, the Demons disappeared. It surprised me at first, but then I understood, that I was tricked again. For some reasons, the Elder God did not want my death now. He wanted me to stay alive. Perhaps my death could ruin his plans? Or did not know how to kill me, when Raziel was no more?
I could be locked here, perhaps forever, as these beast said. I was trying to take the Bats Cloud form, but I could not. The barrier blocked this spell. My teleporting spell was useless too - trying to warp out of the force shield cage, I was appearing inside it over and over again. Then I tryed to brake the walls with the Reaver blade, but I was pushed back and disarmed. After a few hits like that, I stopped, realizing that only killing the Demons would make the force cage open. Or if somebody would use a telecynethic to open it from outside. But a chance that somebody would do that here, in the Demonic Realm was almost null. Would Hylden rescue me? Or the Demons?...
However, if you don't go to the mount, the mount goes to you. And the "mount" was my saviour. His telecynethic spell made the force wall shut down. I was free. I could see my saviour: pale blue skin, large beautiful wings and an old face, with an expression of somebody who suffered a lot for his entire life. The one I was looking for has found and rescued me. It was so ironic. Janos Audron spoke first.
"What are you doing here, in the prison of our enemies?", - he said.
"I was coming to rescue you, but as you see, it turned out that you have just rescued me. You haven't changed through all these years Janos. How have you survived in this dimension for two thousand years?", - I asked.
"I was held here, imprisoned, just like you, in a force shielded cell, until a few days ago the cell has just disappeared. Restoring the Balanse in our realm, you shattered this world, killing many of the Demons, including those who were holding this prison working. Thus, I must thank you", - Janos said.
"Well, you already did...", - said I, - "How was it staying here for so long? Why they did not kill you while they could? How did you survive without blood?"
"These force walls draw your powers. When you stay here for long, you fall asleep until the cell opens. I was sleeping all these years, and you have surprised me now, telling me that two millenias had passed. I did not feel the time flowing. During this sleep I could not feel the blood hunger. It is something like lethargy. Before I fell aslep, I saw some hylden as they came to my cell, making the Demons flee. I was guarded by the hylden warrior, that the Demons would not come to kill me. I do not know why they kept me alive. However, I feel weakened, and need some blood now. Can you feed me, Kain?", - said Janos. I gave him my arm to drink my blood, and found out that he drank pretty much. I had to pull my arm away from him, because he could not stop drinking. "Enough!", - I said. It seemed like somebody was manipulating me again. Janos came exactly on time, and I found it too much confident. There was still somebody who was pulling the string of the puppets. But who? The False God perhaps? But he always wanted me dead... I knew I had to find it out. But first I needed to ask Janos a few questions.
"As I can see, Kain, you have come here for me not just for saving my life. I know you... What do you need?", - he said.
"Thousands of years ago you translated an ancient prophecy that told of the "Redeemer and Destroyer". However that was just a half of the prophecy. Something tells me that this prophecy has another chapter, that continues the events of what must happen to Nosgoth. And I want to know them. I want you to translate them. I have found the runes on the Balanse Pillar, that became visible to me after I have restored the Balanse", - I told him.
"Yes, indeed. I translated the prophecy, but I did not saw all of it. It was written on an ancient language, far more ancient than our and Hylden's. I am afraid, Kain, that I misread the signs, and translated it wrong. The Hylden's translation was closer to the truth. Raziel was the champion of Hylden, that was destined to kill you... and by the way... where is he?", - Janos surprised.
"Raziel was the Redeemer and the Destroyer, while I was the Scion of Balanse. He had the Free Will of deniyng or accepting his destiny of being consumed by the reaver and being the Soul Reaver - my weapon. He chose to accept it. His sacrifice has purified me, and gave me the true vision, I saw the real enemy, the Elder God, or the Master of the Wheel of Fate, as you were calling him. You were all decieved. I saw him. Whatever he is, Janos, he is no God. He was the author of all the conflicts through the history. Raziel gave me the knowledge and opened my eyes...", - I could see a despairing expression on Janos's face. He was surprised, and could not believe me, but seeing the Balanse Reaver, he understood that I was speaking the truth. However still he was shocked.
"You Wheel of Fate is a lie. Your God was feeding himself with your souls", - I continued, - "The more blood is shed, the more the parasite grows and prospers. I think he was the reason for all these wars of you and the hylden. The problem is that only those who were purified by the Balanse Reaver... and Raziel could see him".
"How is that possible? He was so powerful? He knew the past and the future. He was omnicient...", - Janos gasped.
"He could see past and future, but could not predict the actions of those who had Free Will. Raziel was torn away from the Wheel of Fate. And trust me, he is not that powerful and omnicient. I fought him, and defeated him. However he still lives", - I tried to tell everything shortly and not to shock him very much, because I needed answers. However it was not that easy, - "Then I returned to this timeline, and restored the Balanse. I found that prophecy, and I want to know what else the fate promises, and what I can change if there would be need for it".
"You cannot change the fate", - Janos said, - "History cannot be changed..."
"It can be", - I stated, - "And I know how to create paradoxes", - I swang the reaver blade.
"Anyway, let me see these runes. I will try to translate them", - Janos calmed for a while, but I still could see a shock on his face.
Me and Janos reached the Pillars arena. Some strange thoughts ran over my head. The Demons were trying to kill Janos but the Hylden warriors saved him, and guarded him while he was sleeping. Today, the Demons locked me too, but left. Perhaps they wanted me to fall asleep, and then kill me. It was making sense. But why the hell, the Hyldens saved Janos? And if Janos was not there today, then the Hylden would have come to guard me?What if they knew that me and Janos were connected with the Heart of Darkness? They needed me to stay alive, that was why they guarded Janos. But what for? What did they want from Me? I had been their sworn enemy for all these years. It could not be that the Elder God was behind all these event. But if not him, then who? It had to be somebody who could also see the future, its current stream.

As we reached the Pillars, and I took out the reaver, some strange noises have been heard. The world around me started moving, and I felt a strong sense of headache, along with terrible strange voices in my head. I could not understand what were these voices, until Janos shouted, - "Demons!!! They were after us!". I should have known this. They could not let us go that easy, just as I always liked. Half a minute later, we were surrounded by a dozen of those different creatures. Some of them were like spiders, some like minotaurs, others like gargolyes... They all looked hungry and angry. I demonstrated some circles on the air with the reaver, to scare them a little, but these were not humans, vampires or hylden. These demons had no sense of fear.
"This is where it ends", - said one of them.
"Even though you were saved from quite death in the force shield cell, you will never leave this place", - said another.
"Every long life must ends. Everything that starts, eventually ends. Your life ends here Kain", - another one said.
"Now you are trying to overcome me with numbers? Your master does not like to loose, doesn't he? If you were of a known race of Nosgoth, I would have offered you my mercy, or maybe an easy death... But as for you, I cannot promise such a thing", - I said.
I made a shot with the reaver, droping one of the demons on the ground. Janos used his telecynethic waves to pull the demons away. Those who fell, were stunned. I siezed the moment, slashing them. Waves of green blood bathed me and the arena of the Pillars. The remained demons dropped me on the ground, being ready to impale, but Janos pushed them away with his telepathic waves. Then he shot a few of them with his telepathic shots. I was slashing those who remained alive. Eventually, only one of them left, and he managed to impale my chest. I screamed of pain, and the dropped the reaver on the ground. The demon grabbed it with his ugly hands, and brought its blade to my throat. I felt myself unable to hold on, his physical powers were much stronger than mine. The reaver was getting closer...
Suddenly Janos stuck his claws in the demon's neck. The creature screamed out of pain. That scream was so horrible that my pain was gone out of the shock. Janos stole the reaver from the dempn's hand, and with a beautiful piruette slashed the demon into two pieces on the torso... We both were covered with blood, that however disappeared like ashes in a few seconds. Janos looked at me and I looked at him. He demostratively gave me the reaver, showing me with an expression of show off, as if he granted me the reaver right then. I guess he did not like me, because of what happened to Raziel. Or because of what I had done with Umah. Well, I admit, I did many wrong things. And after my purificatiion I felt very uncomfortable with them. My arrogance blinded me at those times. All I wanted was to rule the world, to establish my empire. I pushed away and ignored those who were ready to help me. I betrayed my allies. I brought much suffer to this world, but what choise did I have? That was my fate, and I was about to change it. And I was not mad at Janos for being mad at me. He had the rights... he had the reasons.
I opened a small portal to the Material Realm, allowing me and Janos to come back to our realm. Home sweet home! I was so glad to see no more of those vertigoes and senses of the whole world swaying and moving around you. As we stepped towards the Pillar of Balanse, Janos started reading.
"I can barely understand it. I have never seen this chapter of the prophecy", - he said.
But when he read the last line, his face turned pale. He opened his mouth but the words did not come out. I looked at him, and behind his eyes I could see some kind of dread. What did he read out there? I was afraid to ask him. It had to be something terrible. What if my challenge against the destiny was for nothing? What was there, in the last line? The end of the world?
"Hyldens return to the world they too belong, and the Vampire race will be redeemed. The three races will meet in Nosgoth once again...", - he read the line, - "We eventually return to the point where everything started", - he said to me then.
